Extended Privacy Policy on the Use of Cookies

European Regulation on the Protection of Personal Data No. 679/2016, GDPR

Use of Cookies

Cookies are short text fragments (letters and/or numbers) that allow the web server to store information on the client (the browser) for reuse during the same visit to the site (session cookies) or later, even days afterwards (persistent cookies).

Cookies are stored, based on user preferences, by the individual browser on the specific device being used (computer, tablet, smartphone).

Similar technologies, such as web beacons, transparent GIFs and all forms of local storage introduced with HTML5, can be used to collect information about user behaviour and the use of services.

Throughout this document we will refer to cookies and all similar technologies simply using the term "cookies".

Types of Cookies

Based on the characteristics and use of cookies, we can distinguish several categories:

Strictly necessary cookies. These are cookies essential for the correct functioning of websites and are used to manage login and access to restricted site features. The duration of these cookies is generally limited to the working session (they are deleted when the browser is closed), but in some cases and without any notice, cookies of longer duration (expiring after 30 days) may also be used, aimed at recognising, for that period, the visitor's computer through an alphanumeric code generated at the first login session, in order to present the user with the result of the test they performed. Disabling them compromises the use of services accessible via login. The public part of the sites normally remains usable.

Analytics and performance cookies. These are cookies used to collect and analyse traffic and site usage anonymously. These cookies, without identifying the user, allow, for example, detection of whether the same user returns at different times. They also allow monitoring of the system and improvement of its performance and usability. Disabling these cookies can be done without any loss of functionality.

Profiling cookies. These are permanent cookies used to identify (anonymously and otherwise) user preferences and improve their browsing experience.

Third-Party Cookies

When browsing the web, you may receive cookies both from the visited site ("first-party") and from sites managed by other organisations ("third parties"). A notable example is the presence of "social plugins" for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. These are parts of the visited page generated directly by the aforementioned sites and integrated into the page of the hosting site. The most common use of social plugins is aimed at sharing content on social networks.

The presence of these social plugins involves the transmission of cookies to and from all sites managed by third parties. The management of information collected by "third parties" is governed by their respective privacy policies, to which please refer. To ensure greater transparency and convenience, the web addresses of the various privacy policies and cookie management methods are listed below.

Google Analytics

The sites also include certain components transmitted by Google Analytics, a web traffic analysis service provided by Google, Inc. ("Google"). In this case too, these are third-party cookies collected and managed anonymously to monitor and improve the performance of the host site (performance cookies).

Google Analytics uses "cookies" to collect and analyse anonymously information about website usage behaviour (including the user's IP address). This information is collected by Google Analytics, which processes it in order to compile reports for operators regarding activities on the websites themselves. This site does not use (and does not allow third parties to use) Google's analysis tool to monitor or collect personally identifiable information. Google does not associate the IP address with any other data held by Google, nor does it seek to link an IP address with the identity of a user. Google may also communicate this information to third parties where required by law or where such third parties process the aforementioned information on Google's behalf.

Users can selectively disable the action of Google Analytics by installing on their browser the opt-out component provided by Google. To disable the action of Google Analytics, please refer to the link below: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Cookie Duration

Some cookies (session cookies) remain active only until the browser is closed or the logout command is executed. Other cookies "survive" the closing of the browser and are available in subsequent visits by the user.

These cookies are called persistent and their duration is set by the server at the time of their creation. In some cases an expiry date is set, in others the duration is unlimited.

However, when browsing website pages, you may interact with sites managed by third parties that can create or modify permanent and profiling cookies.
